Sacramental Preparation

“The sacraments are the privileged encounter of friendship with Jesus” George Weigel.

INTRODUCTION: Each of the seven sacraments encompasses and strengthens our relationship with God throughout the various stages of our lives. They are gifts to the Church which enable Christ’s presence to remain among His people, to help them grow in faith, and to prepare them for eternal life. Our sacramental programs are designed to help people discover Jesus, and take the next step in their personal friendship with Him. This journey consists of conversion, repentance, belief in the gospel and discipleship. The sacraments help us fulfill our purpose which is to become disciples of Jesus. A disciple is a student of Christ, someone “who walks in the ways of Jesus” (1 John 2:6). Those who respond to Jesus’ invitation to “follow me” (Matt 4:19) will receive “abundant life” (John 10:10). No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, we are here to help you take the next step in your relationship with Jesus. The sacraments are how we live out that friendship effectively.

The sacramental preparation program helps children develop a personal relationship with Jesus, by participation in the Church’s sacraments. During Reconciliation children will discover that they are created and loved by God, but that their relationship with Him (and others) has been damaged by sin. They will hear the good news that Jesus died for their sins and continues to forgive them through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Children will also discover that Jesus gave His friends the gift of the Eucharist, which is His very body and blood. Children will learn that this heavenly food is how they remain close to Jesus and develop their friendship with Him.

At this current time the program has been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.

Recently the Diocese of Saskatoon has changed the age of Confirmation from grade 2 to grade 6. This has taken place in order for children who receive Confirmation to be more emotionally and spiritually mature, which will help facilitate their understanding of the sacrament.
